You Don’t Have To Be Injured To Start Physical Therapy

“You need to be injured or be experiencing pain to start physical therapy.” — FALSE!

When many people think about physical therapy, they assume that the person attending physical therapy is experiencing pain, or maybe they had a significant injury, or possibly recovering from surgery. While all of those reasons are fantastic reasons to be seeing a physical therapist, that isn’t where it ends!

Do you have goals? Do you want to be able to do something that you’ve struggled to do in the past, and have worries that you’ll hurt yourself trying to do it? Maybe you’ve been wanting to get into a running program and finally sign up for that 5K with some friends! Or maybe you want to be able to work on your overall health and fitness in 2024, but you’re not even sure where to start. Maybe you’ve had injuries in the past when you’ve tried to do these things and you’re a little worried about some of those issues coming back.

Physical therapists are movement experts. The beautiful thing about physical therapy is that we are looking at how your WHOLE BODY moves and works together during any activity. Whatever your goal might be, physical therapy can help you gain confidence if your ability to move without fear of injury! We can talk about any past injuries (even if they aren’t currently bothering you) and figure out if there are some things you should be doing to prevent those pesky issues from coming back as you reach for your goals.

You DON’T need a referral to see a physical therapist at Shift Physical Therapy in the state of Minnesota. We can see you for up to 90 days without needing a doctor to write an order for physical therapy. Also, since we are an out-of-network provider at Shift Physical Therapy we aren’t bound to any “rules” of the insurance company. We get to focus solely on YOU and the care you need. When working through insurance, you might be limited to only treating one certain body part during a physical therapy session - instead when we are working as a cash practice, we can (and will) look at your symptoms or concerns from a full body perspective. There are no set limits on how many visits we can see you for. Truthfully though, often we don’t need as many visits to get where we want to be. Why? Because we get to spend more time with you and give you all of the tools you need to be successful. We aren’t forced to choose quantity of patients over quality of care provided because of declining insurance reimbursement for physical therapy.

How about injury prevention? Again, physical therapists are movement experts. At Shift Physical Therapy, one of Jackie’s favorite things is seeing young athletes come in to work on their speed, agility, strength, and learning good movement patterns to AVOID injuries when they enter their specific sport activities. Being able to mimic their sports and improve strength helps them avoid injury and can enhance sport performance!

So don’t wait until you’re in pain to come see us at Shift Physical Therapy! And if you are in pain, reach out to us at Shift Physical Therapy! Let us help you reach your goals.
